Parkinson’s Disease
Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disease that affects movement and coordination. It occurs when nerve cells in the brain that produce dopamine begin to break down or die, leading to symptoms such as tremor, stiffness, and bradykinesia (slowed movement.)
Symptoms & Progression
- Resting tremor (shaking hands, jaw, or legs)
- Muscle rigidity and stiffness
- Slowness of movement (bradykinesia)
- Poor posture and balance, increased falls
- Speech and writing changes
- Cognitive decline and depression in advanced stages
Symptoms progress gradually, and every patient’s journey is different. Early diagnosis and individualized treatment are key.
Latest Treatment Options
We offer a full range of cutting-edge and supportive therapies tailored to each patient’s condition, stage, and goals. Our multidisciplinary approach ensures holistic, personalized care.
- Medication Management: First-line treatment often includes advanced therapies like Levodopa, dopamine agonists, and MAO-B inhibitors to help manage symptoms and improve motor function.
- Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS): A highly effective surgical option for selectedpatients with Parkinson’s, Essential Tremor, or Dystonia. It involves implantingelectrodes in the brain to regulate abnormal activity and significantly reducetremors and motor symptoms.
- MRI-Guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS): A non-invasive surgical alternative for treating Essential Tremor and Parkinson’s Disease. This FDA-approved procedure uses focused ultrasound beams to target and disrupt specific brain tissue—without any incisions or implants. MRgFUS provides rapid relief and a quick recovery for eligible patients.
- Physical Therapy: Personalized rehabilitation plans to maintain or restore strength, balance, and flexibility to support mobility and independence.
- Occupational & Speech Therapy: For everyday activities, communication, and swallowing support, which is essential in maintaining quality of life.
- Psychological & Cognitive Support: Our team includes neuropsychologists, psychiatrists and counselors who help patients and families cope with emotional and cognitive changes related to their condition.
Our Approach
At Healbridge, we believe that healing is not just about treating a condition—it’s about restoring dignity, confidence, and quality of life. Our approach is
What is Essential Tremor?
Essential tremor is a neurological condition that causes rhythmic tremor, most commonly in the hands but can affect other areas as well, such as the head, voice, or legs. It is the most common movement disorder. While it is often mistaken for Parkinson’s, it is a distinct condition: in Essential Tremor, shaking occurs only duringactivity, not at rest, whereas in Parkinson’s patients, tremors occur at rest as well.
Causes & Triggers
- Typically hereditary (familial tremor)
- Worsens with movement, stress, caffeine
Treatment Options
Non-surgical
- Medication treatment (Propranolol and Primidone)
- Botulinum toxin (Botox) injections in specific cases
- Physical therapy and assistive devices
Surgical
- Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for moderate to severe tremors unresponsive to medication
- MR Guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS)
Our Approach
Our team offers both non-invasive and surgical solutions depending on the severity ofyour symptoms, personal preferences, and lifestyle goals. We prioritize precisediagnostics and education to help patients regain control over daily tasks
What is Dystonia?
Dystonia is a movement disorder characterized by involuntary muscle contractions that can cause repetitive movements and/or abnormal postures. It can affect either a single body part or the whole body.
Types of Dystonia
- Focal (e.g., cervical dystonia, writer’s cramp)
- Segmental
- Generalized
- Task-specific (musician’s dystonia)
Symptoms
- Involuntary twisting
- Muscle cramps or pain
- Abnormal posture
- Aggravated symptoms with stress or fatigue
Treatment Options
- Botulinum Toxin (Botox) Injections to reduce muscle overactivity
- Oral Medications (anticholinergics, muscle relaxants)
- Physical Therapy
- Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for generalized dystonia or severe cases
Our Approach
We understand how dystonia can deeply impact self-confidence and everyday life. Our experienced team provides precise precision-guided treatment plans and long-term support to help restore normal function and comfort.
Other Types of Tremors
What is Tremor (Non-Essential, Non-Parkinsonian)?
Tremors can occur as a symptom of many neurological conditions or can be medication-induced.
- Cerebellar tremor: Caused by damage or dysfunction in the part of the brain thatcontrols coordination, balance, and fine motor movements.
- Physiological tremor: Harmless tremor that everyone has that can intensify withstress, anxiety, fatigue, lack of sleep, hypoglycemia, thyroid overactivity, andsubstance withdrawal
- Drug-induced tremor: Occurs as a side effect of certain medications andsubstances
- Orthostatic tremor: A rare movement disorder characterized by very fast tremornon-visible to the and occurs only when standing
Our Approach
Our neurologists perform comprehensive assessments to determine the root cause of your tremor. We then develop a personalized treatment plan, which may include medication adjustments, physical therapy, or surgical options where appropriate.
